The diamond may be among the world's top 20 high-quality gems. It was discovered Thursday at the mine northeast of Pretoria, South Africa.

It is reported that the 507.55-carat gem was of "exceptional color and clarity."

No value has been give yet for the diamond, which weighs just over 100 grams.

The mine also produced the largest diamond ever found, the Cullinan, at 3,106 carats in the rough.

That finished stone is set in Britain's Imperial Scepter as part of the Crown Jewels.

It is a real, GIA-certified diamond created from DNA carbon extracted from a lock of hair. The most personal diamond in the world, no two are alike.

Using hair from both the bride-to-be and groom or many loved loves combined (such as children, parents), we make your own personal diamond to commemorate your upcoming special event. Consider a unique GIA certified diamond that could be a family air loom, and handed down from generation to generation.

Remember ... A wedding marks the beginning of a new life full of cherished memories shared with a loved one you can't image being without. Such special times could be an upcoming anniversary, a new baby or even a very special pet companion. We think you'll find that DNA2Diamonds become perfect keepsakes to commemorate today's special moments, and heirlooms tomorrow.

An added value is that DNA2Diamonds are eco-friendly and involve no invasive activity that damages the environment.

Read the 7 steps to how your special diamond is created:

Step 1: The creation of your diamond begins when we receive your Signature Hair kit. You will receive a personal identification number that allows you to follow the step-by-step process.

Step 2: Using a proprietary process, we extract the carbon signature from the hair (or ashes, yes we can use ashes if your loved on has passed) you provide. This is then added to a real diamond seed, and the mixture is placed in a custom-designed incubator.

Step 3: The incubator uses a unique and complex High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) process to duplicate the earth’s natural diamond-growing conditions. Temperatures exceed 2000°C and pressure is greater than 60,000 atmospheres. This replicates, in a matter of weeks, a process that takes hundreds of thousands of years below the earth’s crust.

Step 4: After the growth phase is completed, a genuine diamond “in the rough” results. It is chemically, physically and optically identical to a natural, earth-mined diamond. Born molecularly, with the unique DNA carbon signature from you or a loved one, your DNA2Diamond is one-of-a-kind – the most personal diamond in the world!

Step 5: Our master gem cutters cut and polish your diamond in accordance with the highest industry standards to fulfill your custom request. Your DNA2Diamond will be individually identified with a laser-engraved ID number on the girdle of the diamond. In addition, a personal message can be laser-engraved. These laser-inscriptions do not affect the fire and luster of your diamond. They are visible only under x20 magnification.

Step 6: Your diamond is then independently authenticated, inspected, measured and graded by the Gemological Institute of America.

Step 7: Your personal diamond is placed in our luxurious gift box. Included with your diamond is the original GIA Certification, a Certificate of Authenticity and additional documentation. The package is shipped to you via certified mail. All shipments are fully insured.

New and improved technology has now made growing diamonds cost-competitive with mining them. Diamond-making machines subject a graphite-carbon core and a diamond seed at a pressure of 850,000 PSI for four days, recreating conditions similar to those 100 miles below the earth's surface. The lab-grown diamonds that come out are optically, chemically and physically identical to those that occur in nature.

My Pet Died

Different people experience grief in different ways. Besides your sorrow and loss, you may also experience the following emotions:
  • Guilt may occur if you feel responsible for your pet's death-the "if only I had been more careful" syndrome. It is pointless and often erroneous to burden yourself with guilt for the accident or illness that claimed your pet's life, and only makes it more difficult to resolve your grief.
  • Denial makes it difficult to accept that your pet is really gone. It's hard to imagine that your pet won't greet you when you come home, or that it doesn't need its evening meal. Some pet owners carry this to extremes, and fear their pet is still alive and suffering somewhere. Others find it hard to get a new pet for fear of being "disloyal" to the old.
  • Anger may be directed at the illness that killed your pet, the driver of the speeding car, the veterinarian who "failed" to save its life. Sometimes it is justified, but when carried to extremes, it distracts you from the important task of resolving your grief.
  • Depression is a natural consequence of grief, but can leave you powerless to cope with your feelings. Extreme depression robs you of motivation and energy, causing you to dwell upon your sorrow.
Dealing with a loss of a pet can be very difficult and no two people will experience the same feelings after losing a pet.

DNA2Diamonds is here for you to help you find ways to celebrate the memories of your pet. For more information, please visit our website.

A Poem for the Grieving...

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die...

DNA2Diamonds in the news...

September 24, 2009

Would you rather have a diamond that has been mined or created from personal carbon sources from you, a loved one, or pet? DNA2 makes diamonds from a lock of hair or cremated ashes making your bling a little more special -- or for some it may just be creepy. Interestingly the diamonds that are created do get certified by the GIA (Gem Institute of America). The diamonds are available in three distinct colors: cognac, red and yellow-green. Each stone can be cut into a Radiant, Princess or Brilliant diamond ranging in size from 0.25 to 2.0 carats. I'm just not sure I would want such a personalized piece of jewelry -- it is one thing to choose to wear someone's birthstone or a family heirloom that has been passed down but sporting someone else's DNA is a bit strange to me.

(Hairy) Diamonds are a Girls' Best Friend

As seen on CoBWeb the Boise Weekly Group Blog.

Some inventions fall in to the category of "I wish I would have thought of it." For example: salad spinners, cell phones and toothbrushes.

We receive a lot of funny junk mail at the BW headquarters—some about pills that lengthen, others from the accountant of a far away prince who needs some help hiding his assets and wants to cut us a big check. But the ones about creating a genuine, certified, one-of-a-kind diamond created with DNA carbon wins the prize for uniqueness.
DNA2Diamonds grows sparklers in 70 days or less that contain the DNA of beloved family members, a cherished pet or even cremated ashes.

Mementos or keepsakes come in all sizes, shapes and forms so kudos to the brain trusts who thought of this spin on commemorative bling.

According to the e-mail, "The DNA2Diamonds process is as simple as gathering a sample of hair!" They use the latest technology to extract DNA carbon from that hair sample and add it to a real diamond "seed" to create a magnificent, GIA certified diamond. DNA2Diamonds can be created in the style, color and size of your choice in sparkling colors of deep red, yellow-green, or cognac and in sizes ranging from 0.25 carats to 2.0 carats. Memories of Tiger's Life

A customer recently sent DNA2Diamonds this beautiful letter about her dogs life and death and how she is choosing to remember him. We wanted to share their story with you as well.

"Tiger had always been my "prissy" dog - he didn't like to get his paws wet or go out in the rain. So much so that when he was a puppy, I would have to hold the umbrella over his head, just so he'd go out before I left for work. Yes, he was spoiled, but he was my baby and I loved him.

He enjoyed playing with tennis balls, especially in the pool. Although he was a golden retriever, he actually was more of a golden keeper. You'd throw the ball, and only occasionally, when he felt like it, would he return it. Even then, it usually would have been stripped of the green material and covered in slobber.

Tiger would sleep on my feet at night and keep them warm - even on 90-degree summer nights! If I sat on the couch to read or watch television, he would snuggle up right next to me and put his head on my lap and soon be fast asleep. On trips to North Carolina to our cabin, he'd run through the woods and go on long walks with me. No matter what I did, Tiger was always there right by my side.

He earned the nickname "Lumpy" sometime over the years because of all the growths he developed. Tests always revealed they were fatty tumors and were nothing to worry about. The vet had assured me that unless they grew large enough to hamper his movement - or his internal organs - he was fine. Little did I know back then that one day, they would do just that.

When I took Tiger in to the vet with a new larger growth, he was moving around only when necessary and I knew something was really wrong. I just didn't want to know. His prognosis was not good. The tumors were pushing his throat closed, his stomach shut and his arthritis had worsened. The vet had offered some suggestions on making him more comfortable and things we could do for him so that we could take him home. I knew deep down that the vet was saying, "Tiger's suffering." I also knew I owed it to Tiger to help him. So, that afternoon I sat on the floor of the vets office with Tiger's head in my lap. As the vet injected him, Ti looked up at me one last time with those big brown eyes as if to say, "it's ok" and then he was gone.

I had Ti cremated and his ashes have been right next to me since then, just as he was in life. But now, after hearing about DNA2Diamonds, I want Tiger to become something more than just a paw-printed metal container on a shelf in my house. I want to see the twinkle of his brown eyes again in a diamond that is part of him. I want him to go on walks with me again and be praised on his beauty, only this time as a pendant on a chain, instead of a dog, on a leash. Thank you for putting the sparkle back into Tiger's memory for me."

DNA2Diamonds – The Meaning Behind The Name

We are thrilled that the word about our amazing diamonds is spreading so rapidly.

We’ve been getting a lot of attention from customers, the media and our industry colleagues. It is an exciting time for us! We’re so happy people are learning about this one-of-a-kind option for engagements, anniversaries, birthdays, pets and much more.

While we are glad that people are talking, we want to make sure everyone has the facts straight as to what exactly it is that we do to create such a unique product.

The name “DNA2Diamonds” represents a road map of the diamond-creation process. We start with hair, which contains DNA, and convert it into carbon – which has the personal signature of the purchaser. Carbon is the primary component in the creation of any diamond, either in a laboratory or deep down under the earth’s crust.

We do not suggest that the DNA itself survives the high temperatures necessary to create this diamond, nor do we suggest that DNA can be identified in the finished diamond. Our name simply represents the amazing process we use to create the most personal diamond in the world. We wanted to clarify the connection between our Company name and the end product that we provide.

DNA2Diamonds uses only personal sources of carbon that are authorized by the Purchaser.

Diamonds in the ruff: Dead pets become jewels

Miss your pet? Now you can keep Rover forever as a shiny accessory

They say a diamond is forever — and now your pet can be too. A company called DNA2Diamonds is offering to create sparkling gems from a deceased pet's ashes or a lock of its hair. In just 70 days, they can turn what's left of your beloved furball into a red, yellow-green or cognac diamond (you can choose the shape and carat size) and set the stone in a ring, bracelet, earring or pendant.

Here's how it works: First, you submit a DNA sample to the company. Carbon is then extracted from the sample and added to a real diamond seed to be placed in an incubator to "grow." The incubator duplicates the earth's natural diamond-creation process at rapid speed, making a genuine "in the rough" stone that's chemically a diamond but contains your pet's signature DNA. Next, the stone is cut and inspected by the Gemological Institute of America before it is packaged and sent to you.

This ice doesn't come cheap, costing anywhere from $2,000 to $18,000 depending on the cut, size and color of stone you choose. Though diamonds can also be made from human DNA, that's not where the largest percentage of DNA2Diamonds's business lies. "These diamonds last forever," company president Bischoff tells PEOPLE Pets. "And we're finding that even in a recession, creating a diamond in memory of a beloved pet continues to be our most popular option."

{Like most pet owners I have been saddened when a beloved dog or cat goes to pet heaven - somewhere north of Cleveland I am told} but strangely enough I have never even thought of having them turned into a diamond for $18,000 grand or so. I must be a lousy pet owner.

Maybe I could do it for my husband but I would need to have a lot of money to afford that. I wonder if he would have to be dead first? I admit there are days when I feel like rushing that inevitability a little. Would a head in a box be considered a DNA sample? Now wouldn't that make a good size diamond? Beat anything Liz Taylor has....I bet!

Gene Roddenberry the creator of "Star trek" was shot up into space by his wife....well his ashes were and Hunter S Thompson's ashes were packed into fireworks and shot into the sky to explode into wondrous colors. I read about a guy who really did want to take it with him so he arranged to be buried in his Cadillac. All that shows considerable imagination or a lack of functioning brain cells.....one or the other.

I think when I go I would like to be put onto an iceberg to drift out to sea and sink ships. It's probably the only way I will ever get that cruise my hubby promised me. What about you?

Ring! Ring! Death’s calling!

Courtesy of The Goddess Blogs.

There’s been a lot of death in the news lately which I find disturbing. I mean, I’m not exactly AFRAID of death, but I’m not inviting him to a dinner party anytime in the near future. It’s interesting to note that this rash of deaths has spawned a whole plethora of news articles on every possible aspect of ‘that moribund state.’

For example, from last week’s MSNBC.com: A company called DNA2Diamonds is offering to create sparkling gems from a deceased pet’s ashes or a lock of its hair. In just 70 days, they can turn what’s left of your beloved furball into a red, yellow-green or cognac diamond (you can choose the shape and carat size) and set the stone in a ring, bracelet, earring or pendant.

Wow. Fluffy is now a necklace. Who knew?

Sadly, in case you were thinking of getting a set of CZs made from your now deceased six cats, this ice doesn’t come cheap and can cost from $2,000 to $18,000 depending on the cut, size and color of the stone you pick.

Of course, if you’re slightly demented like me, you’re already moving on and wondering, “Yes, but . . . what about Granny? Can SHE be made into oh, say, a ruby? Something that might go with that wig she liked to wear?”

Well, just keep reading . . .

Though diamonds can also be made from human DNA, that’s not where the largest percentage of DNA2Diamonds’s business lies. “These diamonds last forever,” company president Bischoff tells PEOPLE Pets. “And we’re finding that even in a recession, creating a diamond in memory of a beloved pet continues to be our most popular option.”

When Hot Cop read the above article, he snorted and said, “That’s the dumbest thing that I’ve ever heard!”

I started to agree, but at about that same time, my sweet not-so-little Po dog lifted his head and gazed at me soulfully as if to say, “Why WOULDN’T you do that for me, Mommy?”

Ok, he doesn’t call me ‘Mommy.’ That’s silly. But he DOES gaze at me soulfully.

Seriously.

So tell me, would you consider making a memorial jewel when your dog/cat/parrot/granny goes to the great water dish/hair salon in the sky? Personally, I find ANY reason to acquire bling a VGT (Very Good Thing), even fake bling made from Doggie Remains. What do you think?

Vendor Spotlight from Iris Fields

In August, Iris Fields, a premier New York City and Miami based event planning firm founded by entrepreneurs Ariana Gordon & Melissa Raskin which produces Wedding, Milestone, Private & Non-Profit Events, featured DNA2Diamonds. Here's what they had to say:

As you’ve seen in our other blog postings Iris Fields is dedicated to finding eco-friendly ways to create the event or wedding of your dreams. Well a great first step in that direction is to purchase a conflict free diamond. Here you have two options: purchase certified conflict free natural diamonds or authentic lab created diamonds. There are now many vendors which provide this product to their eco-conscious clientele. However, this vendor provides a unique twist to this concept.

DNA2DIAMONDS produces lab created diamonds using the carbon base taken from that hair or ashes of a loved one, an entire family, or a pet that your provide as the source. Each is a one-of-a-kind GIA-certified diamond that will forever hold the essence of your loved one. These diamonds are physically identical to earth mined diamonds. DNA2DIAMONDS are ideal for engagement and wedding rings, anniversary jewelry, as well as in the creation of other family heirlooms.

The creation of diamonds in the DNA2DIAMONDS laboratory is a green process because no mining or invasive activity takes place; no water or air pollution is created; and there is no unethical labor or trade practices taking place.

DNA2DIAMONDS come in several colors and shapes including: Red, Yellow-Green, or Cognac and Radiant, Princess and Brilliant. The diamonds range in sizes of 0.25 carats to 2.0 carats.

Turn Dead Pets into Diamond

As seen on www.EliteChoice.org.

Did you ever know that diamond can also be extracted literally from your deceased pet’s ashes or a lock of its hair? This is freaky and sounds very unbelievable. However, a company called DNA2Diamonds comes up with a weird way of creating this sparkling gem out of your deceased pet. This requires a long process though.

All you need to do is to submit a DNA sample of your deceased pet to the company. They will then go through a series of procedures such as; extracting carbon from the sample, adding the carbon to a real diamond seed, which is then placed to an incubator so that it grows. After going through all the necessary procedures, the stone is finally cut and is closely examined by the Gemological Institute of America before it is packaged and sent to you.

What’s even more surprising is that you can turn the remains of your pet into a red, yellow-green or cognac diamond. You can also have the stone set in a ring, bracelet, earring or pendant and choose the shape and carat size according to your choice. The whole thing still sounds weird and impossible. However, even if it’s true, one thing that is still skeptical is the quality of the diamond.

Your deceased pet turned into a colored diamond???

Courtesy of BellaOnline - The Voice of Women.

A company called DNA2Diamonds has unveiled it's latest fall collection which consists of many varieties of sparkling diamond jewelry. They may look like regular colored diamond rings, but there's a little twist. These diamonds, believe it or not, contain DNA extracted from the ashes or locks of hair of deceased pets.

Sounds far-fetched, right. Well the company claims that they have developed a process to do just that, creating sparkling gems that contain DNA extracted from your deceased pet. The process, which is a closely guarded secret, is quite complex and time consuming. However, the end result is a beautiful red, yellow-green or cognac diamond set in ring, bracelet, earring or pendant of your choice.

So, all you pet lovers out there. Here's a wonderful way to remember your dear loving pet once it has passed on.

From DNA to Diamonds

As seen on Jewelry.com, July 7th, 2009.

Receiving jewelry can often be an emotional experience - from diamond engagement rings to anniversary bands to a celebration of your own shining achievements. But a company named DNA2Diamonds is offering their customers an emotional connection to loved ones in an entirely different way.

Whether it's your beloved grandmother, your new set of twins or the cat you've had for 15 years, DNA2Diamonds can turn their DNA into a shining diamond you can wear forever. And fellas, take note. This could be a great way to add a little more incentive when popping the question.

The company uses the latest technology to extract the unique DNA carbon from a lock of hair or cremated ashes and turns it into a GIA-certified diamond within 70 days.

The gem is available in a variety of colors, including red, yellow, green or cognac and in any of these three popular diamond cuts: radiant, princess, and brilliant.

Prices range from $2,000 to as much as $18,000 and sizes start at 0.25 carats for those who want a little shimmer to 2 full carats for those who want a bigger statement.

While DNA2Diamonds might not be for everybody (can you imagine the thought of accidentally losing a loved one down the drain?), the service is a meaningful alternative to the more traditional urn in the case of those who are no longer with us, and - perhaps most importantly - ensures the memories of our loved ones will quite literally always be close to our hearts.

DNA2Diamonds: Create A Diamond From the DNA Of A Loved One!

September 7, 2009

Here's a really unique way to savor the memory of a loved one... Turn a lock of their hair into a diamond!

Man has finally cracked the code on diamond creation, and labs have sprung up everywhere, just waiting to take your order! But... here's a new twist on the process. DNA2Diamonds actually takes a sample of DNA carbon from the hair of a loved one, the fur of a cherished pet, or the ashes of the departed to incorporate into the diamond creation process!

Forever your loved one will be immortalized in a beautiful, sparkling diamond! DNA2Diamonds can be created in the style, color and size you choose, including Radiant, Princess or Brilliant cuts in sparkling colors of red, yellow-green, or cognac and in sizes ranging from 0.25 carats to 2.0 carats. The whole process takes 70 days or less.

Tom Bischoff, President of DNA2Diamonds, LLC explains, “DNA2Diamonds are physically and optically identical to earth-mined diamonds, and yet, they're different. Of all the diamonds in the world, they are the only ones containing the DNA signature of you or your loved one. A DNA2Diamond embodies the very essence of what makes the person (or pet) you love unique. When you deeply love someone, you know them intimately. Now you can keep this person forever close to your heart.”
