Red Diamonds - The Rarest Colored Diamonds

Diamond Education:

Most of the highest-priced diamonds in the world have been fancy color diamonds. The one that leaps to mind immediately is the Hancock Red -- a 0.95-carat Fancy Purplish Red round brilliant, which sold for $880,000 in the late-1980's.

This stone held the world record for the highest price-per-carat ever paid for a diamond (about $926,000) for a number of years, and it wasn't even a very clean stone. It had some eye-visible flaws and there was a chip out of the girdle.

Purple and red are the rarest colors diamonds that occur.

The Moussaieff Red is the largest red diamond in the world.

The most common gem-quality colors diamond occurs in naturally are light and medium shades of brown and yellow.

Lab Created Diamond Engagement Rings

AS SEEN IN THE NY DAILY NEWS

Hair today, in a diamond tomorrow: lab-grown gem uses engaged couple's locks in eco-friendly ring

It’s a gem of an idea and possibly the most romantic engagement ring ever: the DNA2Diamond uses the hair of the betrothed couple as a carbon source to make an eco-friendly, lab-created diamond in just 70 days, according to PR-inside.com.

Aimed at "green" brides and grooms, it does not negatively impact the environment the way mined diamonds do.

Typically, diamond mines remove some 275 tons of ore in order to make a one-carat, gem-quality polished diamond, says PR-inside.com. But lab-grown diamonds rely on the lovely locks of the couple.

"Laboratory grown diamonds do not come from a mine," DNA2Diamonds president Tom Bischoff said. "That simple fact is of growing importance to more environmentally and socially aware brides making DNA2Diamonds the 'green' bride's choice."

His gems can be made in a variety of cuts and colors, including red, warm cognac and dazzling blue. And they come in sizes ranging from 0.25 carats to 2.0 carats. Best of all for cash-strapped grooms, they cost a fraction of what a mined diamond does.

One potential problem that could take some of the sparkle out of the project: a balding groom.

Famous Diamonds

When it comes to mysteries and legends, all on top of the Hope Diamond. Is not the biggest diamond ever to be cut, but has a long and complicated history of diamonds in existence.

Like most certified loose diamonds, was the Hope diamond cutting a wider Crystal, which in this case, the Blue Tavenier, the rough-cut stone that is allegedly taken from the legendary Golconda region of India and stolen by a statue of Hindu goddess Seeta.

Blue Tavenier came into possession of a French traveler, with the same name in 1660 and eventually became part of French crown jewels. This diamond was stolen during the French Revolution in 1792. The Hope Diamond has emerged from Tavenier Blue, England reducedin 1812. It 'was finally resolved in the collection of Henry Philip Hope in 1824. The diamond in the United States was when a descendant of Hope, Francis Hope married an American actress named Yohei May, 1894. E 'changed hands several times in the sixties before the next New York diamond merchant Henry Winston donated to the Smithsonian Institution, where he is still on display.

An inventory of diamonds and analysis confirmed that in 2005 the Hope Diamond has been actuallya piece of Blue Tavernier, although it has been said to "have the curse of death," the fact that most people who owned the Hope Diamond had died a natural death in older age groups.

Other Gems of Fame

Other famous diamonds are the Taylor-Burton, a tribute to a couple of tragic life that could not fit even further, with more than 68 carats, it took 5 million dollars at auction in 1979. by Robert Frost

Nature's first green is gold,

So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

To laugh often and much

By Ralph Waldo Emerson

To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of the intelligent people
and the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty;
to find the best in others;
to leave the world a bit better
whether by a healthy child,
a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
to know that one life has breathed easier
because you lived here.
This is to have succeeded.
