Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

King James Bible
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of love and a time of war.

Death is Nothing at All

by Canon Henry Scott-Holland

Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped away
into the next room.

I am I, and you are you.
Whatever we were to each other,
that we are still.

Call me by my old familiar name,
speak to me in the easy way
which you have always used to.
Put no difference in your tone,
wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we enjoyed together.
Let my name be ever the household word
that it always was,
let it be spoken without effect,
without a trace of shadow on it.

Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was;
there is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval
somewhere very near,
just around the corner.

All is well.
Nothing is past; nothing is lost
One brief moment and all will be as it was before
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!

The Road Not Taken

by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Should You Go First

by A.K. Rowswell

Should you go first and I remain
to walk the road alone
I'll live in memory's garden, dear
with happy days we've known
in Spring I'll wait for roses red,
when fades the lilacs blue,
in early fall, when brown leaves call
I'll catch a glimpse of you
Should you go first, and I remain
for battles to be fought,
each thing you've touched along the way
will be a hallowed spot
I'll hear your voice;
I'll see your smile,
though blindly I may grope
the memory of your helping hand
will buoy me on with hope
Should you go first and I remain
to finish with the scroll,
no length'ning shadows ahall creep in
to make this life seem droll
We've known so much of happiness
we've had our cup of joy,
and memory is one gift of God
that death cannot destroy
Should you go first and I remain,
one thing I'd have you do;
walk slowly down that long, lone path,
for soon I'll follow you
I'll want to know each step you take
that I may walk the same,
for some day down that lonely road
you'll hear me call your name.

Not How Did He Die, But How Did He Live

by Unknown Author

Not how did he die, but how did he live?
Not what did he gain, but what did he give?
These are the units to measure the worth
Of a man as a man, regardless of birth.
Not, what was his church, nor what was his creed?
But had he befriended those really in need?
Was he ever ready, with word of good cheer,
To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?
Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say,
But how many were sorry when he passed away.

If I Should Go

by Unknown Author

If I should go tomorrow
It would never be goodbye,
For I have left my heart with you,
So don’t you ever cry.
The love that’s deep within me,
Shall reach you from the stars,
You’ll feel it from the heavens,
And it will heal the scars.

Remember

by Christina Georgina Rossetti

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more, day by day,
You tell me of our future that you planned:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that I once had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

Footprints in the Sand

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.
This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see one set of footprints.

So I said to the Lord,
"You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you, you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life
there have only been one set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me?"

The Lord replied, "The times when you have seen only one set of footprints in the sand,
is when I carried you."

As We Look Back

by Unknown Author

As we look back over time
We find ourselves wondering .....
Did we remember to thank you enough
For all you have done for us?
For all the times you were by our sides
To help and support us .....
To celebrate our successes
To understand our problems
And accept our defeats?
Or for teaching us by your example,
The value of hard work, good judgement,
Courage and integrity?
We wonder if we ever thanked you
For the sacrifices you made.
To let us have the very best?
And for the simple things
Like laughter, smiles and times we shared?
If we have forgotten to show our
Gratitude enough for all the things you did,
We're thanking you now.
And we are hoping you knew all along,
How much you meant to us.

How to Select an Enagement Ring

After a home and car, the diamond engagement ring may be the most expensive purchase many consumers ever make. Even though diamonds are at some of the lowest prices in years, your bank account may not notice the difference. Since the desire (or demand) to get hitched doesn’t stop for a recession, here are some tips on how to save money on the big ring.

Bundle the love

Buying the diamond and the ring as a complete package can easily save hundreds of dollars at the outset and much more if you need repairs down the road. And just as important, you want the jeweler to stand behind the quality of the diamond, the ring, and the setting work.

Consider other stones

Colored diamonds can make beautiful engagement rings with the bright red, blue, cognac or yellow-green stone being just as much of an attention grabber as a more traditional diamond. Young couples are also choosing a birthstone such as a garnet or an amethyst for an engagement ring and saving thousands of dollars.

Embrace eternity

If you’re on a tight budget, consider a diamond eternity band, instead of a diamond solitaire. A diamond eternity band has smaller diamonds that go all the way around the ring. Lots of smaller diamonds actually cost less than one large diamond of an equal weight.

Downsize diamonds

Diamond prices jump disproportionately at the full carat and half-carat because of greater demand and because they are more rare. To save money, look for diamond

s just under these size marks. Because a carat is a measure of weight distributed across the entire diamond, visually it is next to impossible to tell the difference between a 0.95-carat diamond and 1-carat diamond, but the savings will be significant.

Use the family jewels

Couples with an heirloom diamond that has been in the family for generations can save thousands because the only cost is the ring itself. Jewelers can help reset the fam

ily diamond into a more contemporary mounting.Check out merchants that carry a sizable estate jewelry collection and hunt for a vintage diamond ring. There are often bargains to be found in these vintage collections.

Create Your Own Heirloom

DNA2Diamonds creates engagement rings for brides by taking a lock of hair from the bride and a lock from the groom. Don't worry, it's no more than the amount of hair cut from a typical haircut! Together, these hair samples are combined to create a beautiful, colored diamond...another symbol of your co-mingled lives, forever.

The Celebration of Life

By Deborah Peabody

The celebration of life,
shared in the beginning, and again, in the end.
Yet we forget to celebrate it, in every moment we live.
Time, days, years, go on, but are we alive?
Alive and do not know it, sleeping in the world
and dead to the life we are to live.
To celebrate all life,
the sparrow who sang in the morning,
and died in the night,
why do we not celebrate its life?
To know thyself is to know you are alive -
to give, to love, to seek truth, beauty, and suffer pain.
In life as it is meant to be, pain is forgotten, and
strength is all that's left to be gained
in the moment by moment celebration of life.

How Are Diamonds Made

Natural Diamonds

Diamond is an allotrope of carbon, a mineral that forms at least 100 miles under ground. The pressures and heat that are required for diamond to form only exist at these depths. Contrary to popular belief, diamond is not a product of coal in any way. Most diamonds we see today were formed from naturally occurring carbon and are at least one billion years old, predating any Carboniferous forests which produced coal by at least 650 million years.

Synthetic Diamonds

Diamonds can be made in factories, by squeezing Carbon in machines at high temperature and pressure, but diamonds made in this way are full of flaws and cannot be used for gemstones. They are instead very useful in industrial tools as an abrasive.

There are two main methods – “high pressure, high temperature” (HPHT and also called BARS method), or you can go “ultra low pressure, high temperature (also known as CVD).

The HPHT method is the one used by almost all synthetic diamond producers today (both for gem use and industrial use). This process tries to mimic how diamonds are grown under the earth, and uses a diamond seed which serves as the growth template, and then a carbon source and catalysts are added to help it grow.

Once you have a finished crystal, you cut off the original ’seed’ diamond, and you are left with a nice lab grown diamond.

CVD is currently mostly used for coating things with diamond, as there are still a lot of challenges to actually grow a larger single diamond with this method. It also uses a diamond seed, but the carbon is supplied by gas that is then molecularly shredded, and the carbon then ‘rains’ down onto the diamond seed below and grows.

Rare Blue Diamond to Hit Smithonian

Washington--Set to appear before the public for the first time in more than a half-century, the 31.06-carat, rare grayish-blue Wittelsbach-Graff Diamond will be on display at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History from Jan. 28 to Aug. 1, the museum announced Monday.

The diamond will be exhibited in the museum's National Gem Collection, in the same hall which hosts the Hope Diamond on permanent display.

The Wittelsbach-Graff Diamond was purchased at auction in December 2008 by Laurence Graff. Graff repolished the stone and brought to it more life and color, thus making it internally flawless, according to the Smithsonian.

Many believe the centuries-old diamond, whose origins can be dated as far back as 1662 when Philip IV of Spain gave the stone to his daughter upon her engagement to Emperor Leopold I of Austria, was discovered at the same diamond mine in India as the Hope Diamond. Smithsonian scientists will explore whether this is true while the diamond is in their care, the museum reported.

You Can Shed Tears Or...

by Unknown Author

You can shed tears that she is gone
or you can smile because she has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all she’s left
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her and only that she’s gone
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
or you can do what she’d want:
smile,
open your eyes,
love
and go on.

The Broken Chain

by Unknown Author

We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide,
And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
